Itinerary   |   29 Oct - 3 Nov 2025
  • DAY 1. Woodchester Station | Hanmer Springs

Wednesday 29 October. Our adventure begins as we arrive in Christchurch and depart for Hanmer Springs. Along the way, we visit Woodchester Station, a property profoundly impacted by the 2016 Kaikōura earthquake. This station made headlines when a sheer cliff face dramatically erupted from the Earth, forming the now-iconic Wall of Waiau.

After our visit, we continue to Hanmer Springs and check into our centrally located 5-star accommodation. Just a short walk from the Thermal Pools, shops, cafés, and restaurants, it’s the perfect home base for the next five nights.

    (Dinner)

  • DAY 2. Molesworth Station

Thursday 30 October. We start the day early with an unforgettable 4WD guided tour through the breathtaking landscapes of Molesworth Station. Covering 486,000 acres—a landmass comparable to Stewart Island—Molesworth is home to some of New Zealand’s most rugged yet magnificent scenery.

As we traverse this vast high-country terrain, our expert guide will share captivating stories of the station’s rich history, the challenges of farming in such a remote environment, and the resilience required to manage New Zealand’s largest working station today. It’s a journey through time and nature, offering a rare glimpse into this extraordinary landscape.

    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

  • DAY 3. Hurunui Gardens

Friday 31 October. Today, we immerse ourselves in the beauty of the Hurunui Garden Festival, exploring some of North Canterbury’s most exquisite gardens. Our journey takes us to two Gardens of National Significance; the 5-star Coldstream Garden and the 6-star Flaxmere Garden – each a stunning showcase of design, dedication, and natural beauty.

We also visit the historic St Helens Station & Homestead, where the homeowners warmly welcome us and share their inspiring stories of passion and perseverance in creating and maintaining these remarkable properties. It’s a day of elegance, history, and breathtaking landscapes.

    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

  • DAY 4. Fete Festival

Saturday 1 November. Today is yours to relax and enjoy the Hanmer Springs Fête, set within the stunning historic Queen Mary Hospital grounds. As North Canterbury’s premier shopping event, the fête offers a vibrant and festive atmosphere, perfect for finding unique Christmas gifts.

Stroll beneath the towering trees, soak in the lively music, and explore an incredible selection of boutique stalls. With so many beautiful products on offer, you won’t be able to resist taking a little something home!

If time allows, why not unwind with a soak in the famous hot springs, the perfect way to end a magical day?

    Breakfast, Dinner.

  • DAY 5. Rainbow Station

Sunday 2 November. Today, we embark on Part Two of our grand adventure as we journey into the breathtaking landscapes of Rainbow Station. This remote high-country paradise offers a spectacular mix of rugged mountain passes, sweeping tussock plains, and crystal-clear river valleys, all framed by towering peaks.

As we traverse this untamed wilderness, we’ll marvel at cascading waterfalls, dramatic gorges, and historic farm buildings, each with a story to tell of the generations who have shaped this remarkable land. It’s a day of exploration, stunning scenery, and an intimate connection with New Zealand’s vast high-country beauty.

    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

  • DAY 6. Homebush Stables | Homeward Bound

Monday 3 November. This morning, we pack our bags and begin our journey back to Christchurch for our flights home. Along the way, we make a special stop at Homebush Stables, a property once spanning 33,000 acres and home to the pioneering Deans family—one of the first to farm on the Canterbury Plains.

Here, we’ll enjoy a delicious lunch and take time to explore the historic buildings, museum, and beautifully maintained grounds. It’s a perfect final stop, offering a glimpse into Canterbury’s rich farming heritage before we bid farewell to this unforgettable adventure.

    Breakfast, Lunch.

Acheron Accommodation House, Molesworth Station

A number of cob houses were built along the route to house stock drovers: The Acheron Accommodation House, also known as the Clarence Accommodation House, is the only one left today. It was built in 1863 by Ned James, a ships carpenter and station hand known for also building cob buildings. He took nearly a year to build the eight-roomed house. The house grew into a social hub. It included a store and unofficial post office and became a venue for a number of local clubs and meetings. Once its proprietor, Ernie Tozier, died in 1932, the house became used less often and was abandoned in 1954. It has now been restored and, along with the Molesworth Cob Cottage (closed to the public), is registered with the New Zealand Historic Places Trust.
