Itinerary  |  18-25 November 2022
  • DAY 1. Blenheim

Today we make our way to Blenheim and arrive late morning. On arrival we are met by our driver and taken to the Argosy Café and Runway for a unique lunch experience. We then make our way to the recently renovated heritage building - the Blenheim Railway Station. Now called the ‘Wine Station’ you can sample up to 80  premium Marlborough wines all in the one place. After our visit, we check into the Scenic Circle Marlborough for our next two nights.

    (Dinner).

  • DAY 2. Omaka Aviation Centre | St. Clair Vineyard

We start the day with a visit and guided tour through Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre. Sir Peter Jackson’s collection of WW1 aircraft and artifacts are displayed in captivating and realistic scenes and the WW2 exhibition includes a range of warbirds including a flyable Griffon powered Mk.XIVe, Spitfire, Yak-3, Fw-190 Focke Wulf and a 44ft Lockhead Hudson.

Later, we enjoy lunch at the beautiful Saint Clair Vineyard – a unique vineyard setting with views towards the ever changing and dramatic Richmond Range.

    (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

  • DAY 3. French Pass | Havelock

We start the day with a scenic drive to French Pass. Here, we are greeted by local hosts, Bill and Ngawai. Bill and Ngawai treat us to lunch and regale us with stories and history of the area followed with a boat trip that runs us up close to the shores of D’urville Island.

Continuing on, we arrive at the quaint town of Havelock where we spend the next 2-nights. Known as the coastal village at the head of Pelorus and Kenepuru Sound, Havelock is also known as the Green Lip Mussel Capital of the world! Unpack your bag and relax. Tonight we dine at a local restaurant.

    (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

  • DAY 4. Pelorus Sound

Sailing away is the order of the day! After a short stroll to the wharf we are soon met by our skipper for the Mail Run Cruise on Pelorus Sound. The crew on board this boat believes that being a “sea postie” in the Sound is one of the best jobs in the world. We get to experience this first hand as we travel through the magnificent Sound highlighting a gannet colony, dolphins, a mussel farm, a tour of an “off the grid” working farm and and a beautiful picnic lunch. Tonight we dine at a local restaurant.

    (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

  • DAY 5. Motueka

After we check-out, our driver picks us up and we hit the road for Motueka – this is on the western shore of Tasman Bay. Our first stop on this trip is at Hoglund Glass to admire some of the unique glass works. We then stop for lunch at the quaint settlement of Mapua – a thriving wharf and commercial area with great shops and eateries. You may choose to try Mapua’s famous fish and chips while sitting on the wharf.

On our arrival in “Mot”, as the locals endearingly call it, you have plenty of time to unpack your bags, take a wander around the shops, or simply relax. Tonight we dine at a local restaurant.

    (Breakfast, Dinner).

  • DAY 6. The Tasman Coast

Farewell Spit is calling and a great day is planned as we drive over the Takaka Hill to the famous Te Waikoropupu Springs – the largest fresh water springs in the Southern Hemisphere. After a short walk into the springs you’ll soon appreciate its allure as it contains some of the clearest water ever measured.

We stop for morning tea in Collingwood before we join our guide and drive along one of the longest sandspits in the world. Its home to over 90 wetland and migratory bird species of its own. We enjoy a picnic lunch at Cape Farewell (the south islands most northern point) and Fossil Point, including the historic lighthouse. Dinner tonight is at a local restaurant.

    (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

  • DAY 7. Kaikoura

Today we branch over the whole top of the South Island as we make our way to Kaikoura. We stop for lunch at Antria Ldoge, a beautiful place to stretch our legs and appreciate the surroundings - this lodge is often described as “Mediterranean meets Antipodes” and you won't be dissapointed.

After lunch,  we continue on our way down the coast to the picturesque town of Kaikoura. We check into our motel that sits just meters from the sea and relax until dinner. Tonight we visit the Old Pier Hotel – this restaurant is rated as one of the best seafood restaurants in the region and while steeped in history it also has phenominal views over the water. And if you’re a crayfish lover then this is on the menu!

    (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

  • DAY 8. Kaikoura Tiki-Tour | Homeward Bound

We make the most of Kaikoura in the morning before travelling down to Christchurch Airport. Kaikoura is New Zealand’s go to destination for all things marine life so we start with a visit to one of the many fur seal colonies - and once smelt, never forgotten! We then freshen up the air with a visit to Lavendyl Lavender Farm. Here we enjoy the stunning gardens, tea room and beautiful products made from the lavender grown onsite. After lunch we make our way to Christchurch Airport where we say our final farewells and fly home.

    (Breakfast, Lunch).

Pelorus Sound Mail Boat Cruise

This is one of the must do activities in New Zealand. The scenery is stunning. As the boat delivered mail and supplies to the isolated communities we got a glimpse into their lives. Our crew were informative and very humorous telling us about some of the locals and the work that goes on in and around the area. As an added bonus we saw two pods of dolphins feeding who then came and swam round the boat. What a treat!"

Te Waikoropupū Springs

Not far from the lively little town of Takaka, in Golden Bay, at the end of a half-hour stroll through the bush, is one of the wonders of nature.

Pumping up out of huge aquifers at the phenomenal rate of 14,000 litres per second — that's equivalent to filling 2,400 baths a minute — Te Waikoropupū Springs (formerly Pupu Springs) funnel the world's clearest fresh water, and arguably its most beautiful.

Up to ten years of filtering through the surrounding rock means that what surges up out of the multiple springs feeding the pools is so pure and clear that the only thing obscuring your view of the various plant species carpeting the bottom, more than ten metres below, is the fabulous blue tint of the water.
