Itinerary  |  21 - 27 December 2024
  • DAY 1. Northern Explorer Train Journey

This Christmas adventure starts when we board the Northern Explorer train for an epic rail journey from Auckland to Paraparaumu. Witness the scenic wonders of middle earth, soar over towering viaducts and cross the high plains of the volcanic plateau!

We arrive in Paraparaumu in the late afternoon and transfer to our accommodation at Raumati Sands, where you are only a minute’s walk away from the beach with vistas over Kapiti Island!

This is our home for the next 6 nights, and boy do we have some fun in store for us!

Tonight, we get this 6-day Christmas fiesta started with a welcome beverage followed with a beautiful dinner at a local restaurant.

    (Dinner).

  • DAY 2. Kapiti Island

Today, we board a boat for Kapiti Island, one of NZ’s oldest and most important nature reserves. After we arrive, we join one of the experienced nature guides for a walk to explain the rich human and ecological history and help identify the flora and fauna around us. This is followed by lunch at the lodge, where we hear many stories of the island’s past.

After a wonderful day out, we return to the motel, where you might want to unwind with a book by the pool or take a stroll down the beach.

    (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

  • DAY 3. Gardens Galore

This part of New Zealand hosts some stunning properties and gardens, so today, we go on an adventure and visit a couple of these beautiful homesteads. Our first stop will be at Anam Cara Garden, a place with over 10-acres of romantic and serene garden settings. We will bask in a guided tour of the grounds and savor morning tea with our hosts. And you may want to save some of your morning tea to visit the Alpacas!

Our next stop is the Trinity Farm Heritage Rose Garden, a 3-acre country garden steeped in history. This picturesque garden boasts rose arbours, English-style box hedges, walkways, a pond, vibrant shrubs and perennials, and a pottage garden surrounding a 19th-century homestead. Enjoy a sumptuous lunch amidst the blooming roses, a testament to the garden's rich heritage.

    (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

  • DAY 4. Christmas Eve in the Capital

Today, we celebrate Christmas Eve in the Capital, first with a visit to Zealandia, the world’s first fully fenced urban ecosanctuary. The bird song here is astonishing, and their work to encourage the native bush and its habitats within a city is unbelievable!

Later, we tiki-tour around the harbour to a wondeful lunch destination followed with a visit to Te Papa, or, if you prefer, some time to explore the streets of Wellington.

    (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

  • DAY 5. Christmas Day

    Jingle bells, jingle bells

    Jingle all the way

Oh what fun it will be to ride

in a coach to Martinborough today, hey!

Merry Christmas! We have some wonderful surprises in store for the morning, and later, after prepping the reindeer, we set out on a picturesque drive through the countryside to Martinborough. We will pause at various lookouts and historic sites, immersing ourselves in the region's rich heritage. Our destination is the charming Martinborough Hotel, where we dine at the Union Square Bistro. Michelin-starred Chef Adam Newell’s team will prepare a sumptuous Christmas lunch, followed by an enjoyable festive afternoon together.

    (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

  • DAY 6. Otaki Boxing Day Races

There’s nothing more thrilling than spending a day trackside when we visit the Otaki Boxing Day Races! We’ll have our own private table and we hope you brought your beautiful hat for a fun day out, featuring entertainment, food and horse racing. We’ll also be running a private sweepstake with a special prize for the lucky punter on our tour!

    (Breakfast, Dinner).

  • DAY 7. Homeward Bound

Today, as we prepare to bid adieu to the Kapiti Coast, we embark on a journey that takes us back in time. We step onto a historic tram, a relic of the past, and visit the Tramway Museum, a treasure trove of memories.

After lunch, we make our way to Wellington, carrying with us the echoes of the past and the promise of new adventures. We hope your festive holiday on the Kapiti Coast has fulfilled your Christmas Cheer and you have enjoyed your time with Seemore Tours, where you see more, do more and have more fun!
